*National Panchayati Raj Day*
Every year annually on 24th of April national panchayati raj day is celebrated as one of the national festival by ministry of panchayat raj. Dr. Manmohan Singh took up the initiate to make up this day first on 24th April ,2010.
This day is dedicated to all the panchayat members over all the nation. It’s the panchayat who takes the initiative to develop the village and the needs of the people living over there. The population of a village is maximum upto 10,000.
Panchyat raj is also called as self Government. They have their own rules and decision non related to the urban areas. The first constitutional amendment was made in 1992. Although it is based upon historical ammendment under the indian constitution. The recommendation of LM Singhvi committee [1986] was accepted. After all of study on this , the panchayats were divided into three parts as Gram Panchayat is under village level, Mandal Parishad is under block level and Zillah Parishad is under district level. It was formalized under 73rd constitutional amendment .Currently panchayat raj system is followed by all the states except Mizoram , Nagaland and Meghalaya. And in all union territories except Delhi.
The Panchayats receive funds from three sources:
• Local body grants, as recommended by the Central Finance Commission
• Funds for implementation of centrally sponsored schemes
• Funds released by the state governments on the recommendations of the State Finance Commissions.
Sources of income
The tax collected under water , electricity , mandirs and some or the other construction.
The collected money under land revenue is the other form .

Programmes like "Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gaurntee Scheme" for generation of employment and alleviation of poverty can be implemented effectively through panchyat institutions. Housing programmes like " Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana", " Ambedkar- Valmiki Housing Programme", " Ashraya Yojana" etc are also implemented to provide shelter to the shelters people.
Social and cultural activities can be encouraged through celebration of village fairs and festivals. Through such activities , village arts and crafts will get an impetus and the rural culture will get enriched.
Mahatma Gandhi said " Development of a village is a development of a country".
